Ah, taxation policy, a complicated yet interesting subject to discuss, and one of my favorites. After reading the Fair Tax proposal, I like it alot! It will eliminate the administrative cost of the IRS, and give Americans an incentive to work more, since they won't be taxed on the money they make, and won't have to worry about making too much money and being bumbed into a higher tax bracket, just to be taxed even more than they already are.

I've heard people say that the Fair Tax plan wouldn't be fair because the rich wouldn't get taxed enough, but when you think about it, the rich spend more, and therefore would contribute more to the tax bill. I'm guessing this plan would also eliminate the capital gains tax, and the savings tax, which I see as counter productive anyway. People should not get taxed on what they earn. Besides, lets face the facts that we live in a consumerist society, where everyone wants more more more. A tax on the more more more might make people consume less, but since they won't be taxed on their income any more, most of those effects should be negated.

Being an advocate of small government and micromanagement, I also like the way the Fair Tax plan decentralizes the government, and helps keep the government out of our pocketbooks. Yeah, I know, "give to Ceasar, what belongs to Ceasar", but it is Ceasar who decides what belongs to Ceasar, and in a democratic republic such as our own, we are Ceasar.

Sorry for the long rant. Good post.
