Two parents educate their own children and end up arrested for “child endangerment.”
Read the article:
A Montgomery County couple has been arrested on child endangerment charges for failing to register their children with the school district as they were home-schooled, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
I know folks are just going to quote the verses about “submitting to all those in authority;” but by what Biblical reasoning is the state taking sovereignty of education away from parents?
Education should be the domain mostly of parents, a little bit of church.
The state should acknowledge and yield to the parental right, authority, and responsibility to provide education for their children. Parents should not have to get any approval from the state for their eduction program.
Well this is one that hits close to home with me because two of my kids are homeschooled by my sister. Each state has different laws and some states make it harder to homeschool than others. In Louisiana it is pretty simple and easy and I have had no problems. I don't know all the particulars about this case, but since the school board easily approved the curriculum now presented, the parents could have prevented a whole lot of trouble by just submitting it 7 years ago.
Most states will approve the normal homeschooling curriculum, but I guess if you live in some state that gives you a problem with all the normal curriculum then there would definitely be issues. Louisiana is really cool because they also let you register as a private school and therefore you do not have to submit curriculum. I don't do that however, because I want my kids to be eligible for state college funds at graduation.
Hense, the Home School Legal Defense Assoc.(HSLDA). As a member with this organization, they come to the defense of parents should they run into any problems between states and parents.
A BIG HUGE problem I will have is if the UN Convention on the rights of the child is ratified (it is a international treaty through the UN). This treaty could seriously jeopardize parental rights and homeschooling.
Thanks for the information regarding this. I urge your readers to go to http://www.parentalrights.org to find out more information about the treaty.

I love the HSLDA!
We all need to "hang together or we will hang separately!"
🙂
My understanding is that the U.S. is the only nation left that has not ratified the treaty (U.N. member nations).
"The last best hope of mankind?" I think so.
We've just got to get through these Obama years, and pray like crazy!
The big danger to look out for is Obama circumventing the constitution by trying to issue an Executive Order, then we yell and protest like crazy.
Oh boy. God can deliver us.
The power of prayer is stronger than anything. Christians need to be prayer warriors.
Amen!
Oh also, I think they made a mountain out of a molehill, because the superintendent said that they were being educated. If anything at all, the parents should have just received a slap on the wrist and curriculum approved.
I also do take issue when the reporter said, "How did you come to know these kids were not being educated?" It made it sound like the children were not being taught and just allowed to sit at home doing nothing.
Hi Jackie!
Leave it to the humanist mentality to think that if the school system isn't doing the education than obviously no one is. Although I suppose the lady actually probably just misspoke from not thinking through what she was saying.
Making the state (Civil Government) sovereign over education is a mistake. When I read my Bible I see a world where parents are sovereign (under God, of course) over their child's education.
Of course, someone will say "but what about crack-addicted-parents," etc.
The church has to move in compassion and persuasion to help those parents. I doubt the state will do any better than the messed up parents at bringing up a child. It's just like World Missions. We don't go to other nations to force them to live out the Christian Way. We share the gospel and they choose to believe and are transformed from the inside out.
We trust far too much in the state to save us in everything.
Parents, rise up and take responsibility for your children!
Ok. That turned into more of a rant than I intended.
🙂
In the long ago past, you didn't have to worry about the state educating your child, but now education is more about indoctrination and not education. My kids were in the public schools until the end of last year. I'm single parent and couldn't afford private school but after my mom died, my sister wanted to educate my children.
In school, they were not learning anything and their attitude and behavior were horrible. Now they are so much more ahead of their peers and their behavior has done a 180 turn around.
Amazing, isn't it? Home Schoolers consistently outperform their counterparts.
